The Great Seattle Seed Swap

The Second Annual Great Seattle Seed Swap!!

Sunday, February 21, 2016

2-3:30pm

The Seed Swap is a FREE program hosted by Seattle Farm School and the Seattle Public Library

at the West Seattle Library Branch:

2306 42nd Ave SW
Seattle, WA 98116

206-684-7444

** PLEASE RSVP by ordering free tickets at the bottom of this page so we have a ballpark number of attendees. **

Come join us! Everyone is welcome to the seed swap – young and old, experienced gardeners and newbies.

If you are bringing seed to share, please arrive by 2:00 to set out your seeds and mingle. Expect to exchange about as many seed packs as you bring. We will have tables set up by plant groups: leaf, root, fruit, and other.

If you are not bringing seeds to swap, please come and get a few varieties to start with!

There will be gardening books to browse and check out and other gardening resources will be available too!

We are accepting seed donations for our future West Seattle Seed Lending Library.  Please email Admin@SeattleFarmSchool.com if you have seeds to donate or a location near the Morgan, Alaska or Admiral Junctions that would like to host the seed library (most likely will be in a cabinet or bookcase), and that is open normal business hours. Thank you!

Good to know items:

If you are bringing seeds you saved, please make a note with all important information. For example: “Green Zebra Tomato: open-pollinated, heirloom, 2014, has grown well in my garden for years, heavy producer, medium-size fruit, indeterminate growth habit, about 70 to 80 days to maturity, good slicer, amazing tart flavor, attractive green and yellow stripes.”

Please DO NOT bring seed you have collected from hybrid plants, as it won’t grow true to type. Also, don’t expect very old seeds to be viable. Most seeds will remain viable for 2-4 years if kept in a cool, dry place, out of the light. Some seeds (onions, leeks, parsnips, celery, spinach, salsify) are only good for a year unless stored especially well. And of course, you don’t want to bring any GMO seed.
