Join Seattle Farm School for our 4th annual Great Seattle Seed Swap! This is a FREE event. Everyone is welcome, including new gardeners looking for inspiration and some seed varieties to get started.
In addition to seeds, there will be a table of gardening resources as well as gardening books available from the Seattle Public Library for check-out. And don't forget to check out our line-up of Farm School classes!
We also offer a year-round free seed lending library in West Seattle for public use. All leftover seeds from the seed swap will help replenish the seed lending library.
More information about the swap:
- If you are bringing seeds you saved, please make a note with all important information. For example: “Green Zebra Tomato: open-pollinated, heirloom, 2014, has grown well in my garden for years, heavy producer, medium-size fruit, indeterminate growth habit, about 70 to 80 days to maturity, good slicer, amazing tart flavor, attractive green and yellow stripes.”
- Extra seeds you have from seed companies are great for swapping too. Please bring them in their original seed packet if possible.
- Please DO NOT bring seed you have collected from hybrid plants, as it won’t grow true to type. Also, don’t expect very old seeds to be viable. Most seeds will remain viable for 2-4 years if kept in a cool, dry place, out of the light. Some seeds (onions, leeks, parsnips, celery, spinach, salsify) are only good for a year unless stored especially well. This is a non-GMO (genetically modified organism) swap, so please, no GMO seeds!
